A friend of Kanye’s tried to help Kanye rethink his support of Trump. It didn’t end like he expected.
You know the name John Legend, right?
He is, as they say, ‘kind of a big deal’. He had the starring role on that recent live showing of Jesus Christ Superstar.
And he’s solidly aligned with the Anti-Trump ‘Resistance’.
Imagine his surprise when Kanye takes Twitter by storm, ‘stirring the pot’ and making it suddenly ‘ok’ for (gasp) People Of Color to:
1) Criticize Democrats and their policies
(He dared to reference Chicago after 8 years of Obama)
2) Support Trump and/or his policies.
If you’re not up to speed on this, it’s culturally HUGE. And it developed quickly over a couple of days. You can get up to speed here.
John Legend texted him.
What follows was reported by E! News
Singer John Legend reached out to West privately Thursday morning.
“Hey it’s JL. I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump. You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans. They are loyal to you and respect your opinion. So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color,” he told the musician. “Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of our generation.”
[CA Editor’s Note: There is NO WAY John was expecting the answer he got back]
In response, an unapologetic West said, “I love you John and I appreciate your thoughts. You bringing up my fans or my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought.”
In fairness to John, we’ll include the full context of the conversation.
On a lighter note, once he realized the conversation was public, — and anything public for Kanye means Viral — at least John had the presence of mind to self-promote.
Hey John. Maybe a grown man shouldn’t be guilting people into taking — or not taking — a political position. Maybe honesty requires something a little more substantial.
Maybe it needs an honest conversation — a radical idea in this day of blind resistance to Trump, we know.
But like your friend Kanye says, you’ve already given the other team a shot. And how well has that worked out?
Obama. Chicago. Eight years later…
Maybe John needs to start singing from a different songbook, too.
Here’s a shirt for real men (and women, too):
Why be average? It’s so overrated.
Everyone does that.
If you don’t think so, add some more meat to your diet and read this while you wait for your steak to grill:
Does your grandpa go off on paltry politicians, whether they be Democrats or Republicans? Does he get misty eyed when he talks about God and Country and America’s future? And have you ever heard him scream, ‘Awww … Hell no!’ when Rosie O’Donnell starts yapping on television? If you answered yes to one, or all of the above, then your gramps will love Doug Giles’ latest book, My Grandpa Is A Patriotic Badass.
Don’t be fooled by the title — this ain’t just for Grandpa.
The Snowflake Generation — and the rest of America — needs a good ol’ dose of ‘Grandpa wisdom’.
Especially if that Grandpa is Doug Giles.
You’ll love My Grandpa Is A Patriotic Badass just as much as Grandpa will.
