Well, well, well. It looks like football fans have themselves a new hero. And he really IS a hero.
Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Tackle, Alejandro Villanueva is the watching his NFL star-status soar and it has nothing to do with his game.
It’s because he took a stand — literally.
When the rest of the team refused to come out of the locker room for the anthem, the West Point graduate and Bronze Star Medal for Valor recipient didn’t let that stop him. He came out alone and stood for the anthem anyway.
An unintended result of that bold stand, has been a meteoric rise of jersey sales. As of 10 o’clock EST on Sunday, Villanueva’s jersey was the highest-selling jersey among all Pittsburgh Steelers on Fanatics.com. According to 247 Sports, Villanueva’s jersey sales rocketed into the top sellers in the entire league as of 7:45 PM EST behind only Marshawn Lynch, Derek Carr, Carson Wentz, Brown, and Aaron Rodgers.
It looks like the NFL fans approve.
They love that this man that served three tours in Afghanistan wasn’t going to let some silly team politics get in the way of his patriotism.
It’s not right to politicize football, basketball, or other forms of entertainment.
(We’re looking at you, Hollywood!)
These are some of the things that are supposed to unite us, not divide us.
Check out what Doug Giles has to say about the ‘Take a Knee’ crowd:
Let them do it!
It’ll only hurt them in the long run.
As is clearly exhibited by Villanueva’s jersey sales.
