Dear CNN: Now That Congress Is Releasing “The Memo”… Will You Finally Report On It?

Possibly the only information in D.C. that HASN’T been leaked will be officially declassified and released to the public.

Adam ‘Shifty’ Shiff does not want this memo released to the public — which means it was perhaps the only confidential information he WASN’T in a hurry to ‘leak’.

And the ‘self-serving’ reference is something psychologists call ‘projection’.

‘The Memo’ has been elevated to the kind of status that it doesn’t take more information to what you’re talking about. Like ‘the Blue Dress’ or ‘Elvis’, just saying ‘the memo’ is enough.

But, just in case you had that flu, and you’re not sure what all the fuss is about, let’s bring you up to speed.

It hinges on the so-called Russian-Collusion investigation.

As more and more of the allegations against Trump’s connections to Russia seem to be coming up empty, a lot of attention is being paid to the things that triggered that investigation in the first place. Especially now that we’ve learned about the possible role of the ‘Dirty Dossier’ that Hillary’s team purchased. Ironically, that dossier was created, in part, with Russian help.

With the release of text messages between Strzok and Page, we have seen some things about the biases of the team in favor of Hillary, and against Trump. This has called the integrity of both investigations into question.

The memo was produced by a small group of House Republicans and staff as part of its investigation into how the FBI used the Trump–Russia dossier. It reportedly reveals that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein approved a FISA application to surveil Carter Page in the spring of 2017. The memo accuses the FBI and the Justice Department of failing to provide enough information about Christopher Steele to a FISA court judge. The memo “suggests that the FBI may have relied on politically motivated or questionable sources to justify its request for a secret surveillance warrant” in the early phases of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections.

Once Trump signs off on it, the public will have the opportunity see for themselves whether the FISA court monitoring of Trump was triggered by a request for surveillance on false pretenses, and corrupt, unvetted information.

Democrats are framing this as a war against law enforcement.

Republicans are framing this as the weaponization of yet another branch of government (the executive branch) and — using it to monitor a rival (Republican) political campaign.

If they are right, this would be literally a scandal worse than Watergate because it would strike right at the heart of democracy.

Whichever side you’re on, the stakes are pretty high.

This. Means. War.
