If big government gun-grabbers are trying to be convincing, they’re doing a horrible job of it.
It all comes down to basic principles about the right to self-defense.
Remember when Americans used to have a basic grasp of big ideas like that, rather than knee-jerk emotional response, and an inclination to push personal responsibilities off to the government?
Remember when we had an ability to discuss big ideas like ‘social contract’ and ‘consent of the governed’?
The rationale for the Second Amendment is simple. We have a natural right to self-defense. One that comes from the absolute right of every soul to preserve his or her life from any hostile threat that may mean to take it.
As a culture, community, and nation, we have gone through a series of trade-offs and negotiations, investing agents of the State with certain authority to exercise those same rights on OUR behalf.
Key idea: It’s our own right to self-defense they are exercising while acting in our name.
But some people would tell us that only government has a right to use or own guns — without explaining why that ought to be the case.
They tell us that only authorities should have devices capable of killing, without failing to recognize that the same tool that can kill a victim can also protect a victim from a killer.
(The tool itself, you see, is morally neutral.)
They would tell us that civilians ought to sit back and let the professionals handle it.
That’s a pretty big demand they are making of civilians to concede their rights, and leave that self-defense in the hands of another.
Especially when a PARTIAL LIST of failure points by the government ‘defending us’ looks like this:
— Sheriff’s office warned 3 months earlier that he ‘could be a school shooter in the making’
— Relative asked them to seize his weapons
— FBI had been warned. Twice.
— 39 police visits to the killer’s home.
— under the care of a mental professional
— history of harm to self (cutting) and to animals
— Unarmed children and teachers demonstrated uncommon courage and self-sacrifice while the only armed person on site remained safely outside doing nothing for at least four minutes.

The men and women in law enforcement that serve and protect us are commendable, but the response time means that they don’t get there when the bullets are flying.
Are you willing to wait 20 minutes for the police to show up?
It’s an issue that needs to be discussed within our churches and addressed by our church leaders.
We need some righteous badassery in the church to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our brothers and sisters in Christ from the preventable evil in this world.
We need to Obey Jesus.
Including what he said in Luke 22:36.
He [Jesus] said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
