80M Views: Paralyzed Bro Won’t Let His Paralysis Get Him Down – This Is Awesome

Don’t let the photo fool you, this ‘disabled’ guy’s moxie might rival a Navy SEAL.

For many people, a devastating injury is exactly that. Devastating.

It divides life into two parts … before and after, and for too many, means ‘the end’ for much of how they define themselves.

Not for this guy.

A casual observer may see Cliff struggle to take an awkward step, may see his unusual posture and quickly size him up, developing a mental picture of what they assume he can and cannot do. They would almost certainly be wrong.

Because Cliff is no quitter.

Paralyzed coach takes exhilarating high dive

He was an Olympian, after all.

And it takes a lot of heart to rise to that level of achievement. And whatever it may have done to his body, the ‘incident’ did not take his heart.

You see, in his twenties, on his way to an Olympic dream, he discovered something about himself.

He had a large tumor in his brain. Which is kind of a big deal, as you would imagine. The surgery saved his life, but it paralyzed half of his body. That ended his diving competition. But not his athletic involvement.

It was months of hard work before he regained any use of his right side at all, but he did.

Now a diving coach at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, Devries celebrates his birthday each year by diving into a pool, according to Deseret News. This year, for his 44th birthday, Devries took to the school’s Judson Pool — and the inspirational moment was caught on video.

“I’ve never really seen it as an inspirational thing. It’s just a lot of fun for me to get up on the board and be back in the water,” Devries told the publication. “The fact that it has blown up to be a large thing where a lot of people can say this is something that is good and helped them, that’s just an extra bonus for me.”

His positive attitude is only made the richer for his aw-shucks reaction to his sudden Internet success. His biggest fan was caught in the clip, wildly cheering him on — his daughter.

This little girl cheering on her father just stole our hearts

Cliff inspired us when he took a harrowing dive, all while being paralyzed on the right side of his body. But it was his daughter who won our hearts with her loving reaction. Who’s your number one fan? Share this to tell them thank you!

This second video shows some of the ‘rest of the story’ giving us an idea about the support network he has that help make something like this possible.

It just shows what you can do when your loved ones are there to back you up.

Well done, Cliff!

And well done, to Cliff’s family, too.

The next time you’re inclined to give excuses, use his story to kick back against any temptation of quitting.

When you’ve got that fork in the road between pussing out, and doing epic sh-t?

It should never be a hard decision:

Here’s a shirt for real men (and women, too):

Why be average? It’s so overrated.

Everyone does that.

You need to Do Epic Sh-t.

If you don’t think so, add some more meat to your diet and read this while you wait for your steak to grill:
